Many didn't like Drones (I indeed quite enjoy it) and compare the new album to that one. I will never stop staying that this thing staying they are improving is a lie you all tell yourself to not face the main problem: Sim Theory is too bad for the band's standards. Since people downvote anyway, here, this is my controversial opinion, hope OP will read: I'm not gonna rewrite everything nor copy-paste because people like to downvote If you care for a "controversial opinion" check my comment history. Imagine a 10 track voyage with those 3 and stuff in the vein of Isolated System, Map of the Problematique etc., it would have been like a lost futuristic dystopian 80s masterpiece There’s something wonderfully majestic and epic about those tracks that just isn’t matched by Propaganda, Something Human etc., and it’s a shame.

One other observation: I WISH Muse had taken the direction of Algorithm, The Dark Side and The Void and fleshed it out into a more sonically consistent album. Also, the “final solution” lyric on TC is still unforgivable. It doesn’t flow at all after track 6 and Get Up and Fight is too abrasively cringy for my taste. I think it would be a genuine 8.5 or 9/10 album, and comfortably Muse’s 4th best album. Why is Pressure so repetitive? Why is Thought Contagion so repetitive? Between three people, could they not have come up with some more interesting ideas to insert into the songs? It's not a terrible album, but it's nowhere near as good as their best albums from the start. It's evident to see Matt is running low on ideas and has to come up with filler songs such as GuaF. So, to sum up, it has a bunch of cool ideas, some bad ones, all neatly packaged in the familiar Muse formula. Kinda like Algorithm, it does everything fine but it itself isn't very exciting or fresh. Why did they release this as the first single of the album? Honestly should've been a B-side to something, maybe at least then we would be excited over that Is it the chorus? Is it the lackluster lyrics? Is it because it feels like it's referencing a whole bunch of other Muse songs? Hard to tellĭig Down has a cool ending, but a weak buildup and it doesn't sound like something Muse-y.

It seemingly has all the elements of a Muse song, but it's uninspired. If I had to imagine a band trying to copy Muse's style and failing, I would come up with this song. It sounds generic and uninspired, despite being written for his dying uncle.īlockades is a parody of Muse. Maybe the Rachmaninoff version can save it, but it's disappointing. The 'solo' is just the riff with a different effect. Thought Contagion has a great riff, but still suffers from repetitiveness. I like how the chorus changes as he gets closer to home. I like "the big picture's gone, replace with visions of you". I still remember hearing it for the first time and having my jaw dropĭespite the general disliking, I think Something Human is a cozy campy song. Considering RATM was one of their big inspirations, I'm surprised they haven't done a RATM-esque song sooner. Maybe that's why it sounds so fresh?īreak it to Me, although not perfect, is something long overdue. One of the better songs on the album, and also one that Matt had like three other people co-write with him. The riffs are great, but it just cycles between the three without much change or soul. It could've used a little more tweaking to stand out.

Pressure is a fun song that suffers from being overly-repetitive. The chorus feels like it's lacking something, but other than that I like the atmosphere and the lyrics are fine for a Muse song "This means war with your creator" is huge and epic, but other than that it just sounds like Matt trying to go for the popular "retro" sound. Algorithm is a solid opener, but it's kinda bland and by-the-books.
